Mamma Mia! The musical....

"Mamma mia, does it show again...My, my, just how much I've missed you?"

Last night I used the tickets I had been given for Mamma Mia! and took Kaitie with me to go see it.
When we got our tickets I couldn't believe where we were sitting. We were sitting in the middle section, 8th row from the stage.
The musical, as with basically anything now a days, was 10x better than the movie. However, the movie is a good substitute when wanting to dance around and see people in platform boots and spandex.
Like the movie there are random towns people, like I had commented on in the earlier post. However, in the play they are only called attention upon when necessary, and even sometimes when you are supposed to look at them, your so caught up looking at the main cast you forget that they aren't the ones singing.
A few differences between the movie and the musical are that in the movie Bill Austin is Bill Anderson. Also the soundtrack for the musical is more extensive including: I Have a Dream, Honey, Honey, Money, Money, Money, Thank You for the Music, Mamma Mia, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Lay All Your Love on Me, Super Trouper, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), The Name of the Game, Voulez-Vous, Under Attack, One of Us, S.O.S., Does Your Mother Know, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Our Last Summer, Slipping Through My Fingers, The Winner Takes It All, Take a Chance on Me, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Have a Dream (italicized songs are not in the movie) I figure the reason Knowing Me, Knowing You was cut from the movie is because its a solo sung by Sam Carmichael and in the movie he is portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, who is not as good a singer as he is James Bond. The Name of the Game is on the DVD for the movie as a deleted scene, so it was more than likely cut due to lack of time. In the movie Our Last Summer is sung by all three possible fathers with Sophie on a boat, while in the musical its between Donna and Harry in her room before the wedding. In the musical Take a Chance on Me is sung in a church with no other witnesses around, while in the movie the whole cast gets to witness Rosie chasing Bill around the hotel.
While both performances are great, I would suggest seeing the live musical. I realized last night as I was driving home that the first show I ever saw on the Strip was Mamma Mia! and after almost 4 years I was able to return to see it, and it will probably be the last show I see on the Strip for a long time.

Here is a clip of Under Attack, one of the scenes left out of the movie, yet amazing in its self

Photos at Lone Mtn.

Today Kaitie and I drove out to Lone Mountain that way she could help me with my most recent photography assignment: Natural Lighting Portraiture.
In traditional Ka(i)tie manner, we were totally out of it. When we first got there we decided that the best background for the photos would be on the actual mountain so we began walking across the park to get to the trails. Once we got to them we realized a.) vans are not the best shoes to go hiking in and b.) we were out of shape. It also might not have helped that we were carrying gym bags with us.
Once we got up to the caves which Kaitie was the most excited to take photos near, we threw down our bags and got started.
Lone Mountain provided the perfect natural background I had been looking for and didn't think I was going to be able to find. There were small caves, which sometimes I was wary to send Kaitie into, graffitied rock (which disappointed me but I still used), and beautiful coloring in the rocks.
While we were up there Kaitie had to change from one outfit to another so I stood in front of her as she changed out of blue jeans into a dress. Then we decided to climb a little higher on the mountain so while I had my camera around my neck and Kaitie in a dress, we started up a steep trail that come to think of it was probably more of a wash from water running down the mountain.
After spending time up at the second spot I fulfilled my deal to Kaitie, which was shed get to use the "pretty, expensive camera!" So we quickly traded clothes so I could be in the dress and she snapped a few shots.
As we started back down the mountain, this time her with the camera and me in the dress we noticed a few more people heading up the mountain. Now this slightly bothered us because not only had we left our bags down there figuring that there would be no one coming up the trail and because we were hoping to be able to trade back clothes. Instead I had to grab a random pair of Kaitie's jeans and slide them on under the dress then throw a t-shirt over it and slide the dress off.
As we headed down the mountain we realized that we were taking the steeper more complicated trail and to my amusement Kaitie yelled out "we always do things the hard way, don't we!"
The whole adventure took two hours but was worth the time spent with my best friend. And of course for the photos that will get me the grade.

Mall Day

Today was my chill day with the girls...at the mall...

This was the first time all break that my running buddies and I had gotten the chance to see each other all at the same time, let alone hang out.
We started out at Abercrombie and Fitch, hoping to see some models. And were sadly let down. So instead we walked around the store before escaping into the fresh air from the way over cologned store. Then we got on the topic of betsy johnson due to Britt's purse, and soon we were in the small store checking out the dresses. We each found an ugly one and a cute one to try on. Heather auctually looked cute in both of hers, while Britt and I perferred mainly our cute dresses. And since we were already in the spirit of trying on dresses we swung into Jessica McClintock and grabbed short and long dresses and tried them on again. Heather practically drowned in her long one but at the same time decided that she loved it. The first long dress I tried to try on turned out to be $2400 and the sales lady would HAVE to help me try it on so I decided it wasnt worth that much for a little fun.
Afterwards we finally walked down to the reason we were there, Build a Bear. So I could build a penguin for Sadies.
Then we wandered towards Hollister where we crammed the three of us into the smallest dressing room ever. We barely had room to change. But it was worth it for the fun and the pictures we got. One of which included me giving Britt a piggy back ride. Next door was pac sun where we found neon t-shirts and matching pants. Britt grabbed pink, heather blue, and me yellow! I swear it was the ugliest outfit ever, but it looked good when standing next to the other two. Next door to that we found a store with metallic spandex pants. Then we grabbed bright tank tops and funky jackets, then extremely high heels. When you put it all together the top looked great with the jacket, but when you add in the pants and heels, it looked like we had escaped off the street corner.
All in all it was a great day with the girls who know the most about me from spending time listening to me on our long miles.

The Long Green Line

Cross Country+Inspirational= Great Movie

The Long Green Line has been sitting on my wish list for so long i had almost forgotten about it until I opened on Christmas. Within the hour I had already popped into the DVD player and pressed play.
The documentary follows York High School in Elmhurst, IL, as they attempt to claim their 25th state title in 50 years.
The movie first starts off introducing the viewer to coach Joe Newton who at the time of filming is 79 and is still coaching because he enjoys it. Newton seems like the perfect coach. With 221 runners on his team, he is still able to take note and pay attention to them all. He shows support and compassion for them all.
The top two runners on the team, seniors Matt and Eric Dettman, or Twin 1 and Twin 2, are also the captains. They are hoping to earn their team a 4th state title in 4 years. As the movie goes on, you see how they work together even when they acquire a viral infection to help their team succeed.
This movie is a must see for all sports fans, not just runners. There were no slow spots or moments that bored. Instead I was mesmerized by the Dukes and their trials to get their state championship.

Check out a clip that doesn't really have anything do with the movie except the fact that it was on the film reels

Mamma Mia! The Movie....

"Mamma mia, here I go again My my, how can I resist you?"
That quote from the song by ABBA which the movie is named after basically says it all.

For my 18th birthday I was given not only the DVD but also tickets to the show.
The synopsis of both is that Sophie is about to get married without knowing her father, yet would like to solve this problem. So she invites the three men who possibly fathered her with hopes that she would discover her real father.
The movie soundtrack list includes:
I Have a Dream, Honey, Honey, Money, Money, Money, Mamma Mia!, Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Our Last Summer, Lay All Your Love on Me, Super Trouper, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), Voulez-Vous, SOS, Does Your Mother Know, Slipping Through My Fingers, The Winner Takes It All, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, When All Is Said and Done, Take a Chance on Me.
The one problem I had with the movie is the amount of time the company spent in the scene. All these random villagers were bouncing around on the roof of a building with Donna. Now while normal musicals have the same problem, it isn't as noticeable as the main character stays in the frame. With Mamma Mia! the company took up most of the film during the songs that included them as backup singers. However, even with this slight problem I still recommend everyone to see it. Especially if you were a fan of ABBA and disco.

Here's a clip of SOS:

Press Release on Signing for Rocky Mountain College

Kathryn Carrell from Las Vegas, NV has signed a letter of intent to participate in the sport of Cross Country at Rocky Mountain College. Katie, a Senior at Arbor View High School had a fantastic senior season and capped off the season with a 13th place finish at the state meet held in Boulder City, NV. "Katie came in first or second in nine of eleven races this year," said Coach King. "She will make an immediate impact on the team and should help us move up in conference." Carrell will provide depth to the young squad that finished the 2008 fall season with a third place conference finish and qualified its first individual to nationals.

Katie is the daughter of Kyle and Tara Carrell and plans on majoring in Exercise Science.

I'm really excited over having signed to run at Rocky next year. When I met the team and the coach in early November I told mom that I would do anything it took for me to attend this school. So when it came time to sign I was more than ready to say yes to coach King.

Funny story though: When we were up in Montana to see the school dad had one request: Bring me back a hat. So mom and I did.As hes begun wearing his new hat around town we've been amazed at the amount of people who know the school. But what we have learned from him wearing it is that almost everyone in Montana wishes to send their kid there. So now we know for sure that this was a good plan and also an amazing turn of fate.
